There is a pond in the foreground about 50 yards away....I've got an idea of what it's used for, but wanted to get some other opinions.

My first thought was to provide water for a steam engine but don't see any remnants of a track there. Maybe to fill the horse-drawn fire wagon?

Dang Bwana, that's the same exact thing I thought of. I really can't see it all that well, but the steam engine filler-upper was the first thing that came to mind.

Almost looks like part of an old tank battery. Are there oil wells in the area? That'd explain the pond for brine too.
Otherwise, I have no idea.
