Chicken Dinner

Egghead and I were out scouting a new piece of ground over the weekend and came across what you see below. We were at least a mile down a gravel road and another half mile down a two track and then off in the woods a bit. Seems like some sort of “furnace”. But, really have no idea.

A back woods lab ... somebody's been "cooking" meth. ;)
(I have no clue)

Not sure what that is but doesn’t look like anything used in any method of meth production I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately this part of Indiana was a hotbed of meth activity for at least 20 years that I’ve been in law enforcement.

obviously a Sasquatch camp ground, they can't just run down to Walmart and buy a buddy heater. Better keep a tight grip on your Jack Links

Hmmm. I've seen really old homemade forges that look kind of like that. Was there any sort of naturally occuring iron ore around there Hank?

Could be, Will. This was out in the Shenandoah Valley and there are remnants of much bigger colonial era furnaces around. This seemed pretty “fresh” though.

We were in the Black Hills of South Dakota this past weekend and the only strange things we came across were these things:

And these which were in big clusters scattered EVERYWHERE throughout the clearing at the top of the hill. Hundreds and hundreds of them.
