I've cleaned a couple deer skulls like this for cutomers. They aren't common but they do show up now and then.

I know there is a species of deer that have fangs, not sure what they're used for or if whitetails and those deer share a common ancestor or not. They might be vestigal or somesuch appropriate adjective like that.

Muntjac/Chinese Water Deer have a wicked set of fangs. I have one of their skulls in my collection and it is one of my favorites. Major conversation type piece as most folks are blown aways by a deer with fangs. The fangs are used to dig up roots. Here's a picture of my little Muntjac skull.

I kilt a whitetail with fangs about 12 or 15 years ago and cleaned the skull. I think I put a picture up here back then of it. It's the only one I've ever personally seen. Ill see if I can find the skull or pictures. Seems like it was back when I had my green 97 Z71....
