As we were discussing in camp. I've replaced the nut on my guitar but never messed with the saddle. I guess that's really all you have to work with in adjusting intonation on an acoustic. Frankly, when I replaced the nut on my old Tak once, I just bought a new one from Martin and then sanded it down as close as I could without the strings buzzing. I never noticed it being out of tune on any of the frets after I finished though. I think I used an old emory board of my wife's to deepen the grooves after I sanded it. A luthier would vomit over the Jakob I did but it worked okay for me!
Anyway, interesting topic that I wanted to learn more about after we talked about it.

Innersting! I may try the truss rod on my Washburn. Can't make it any worse. It's pretty dang sharp at the 12th fret but I don't want to give up any distance on the action, either. What to do, what to do. I added a D28 to my amazon wish list. Maybe that will do the trick :)

Always be careful when working with a truss.
Wise words to live by.

My bridge is already pulling up so I'm not sure it's worth the risk. It could, however, accelerate the replacement of aforementioned old ass washburn :)

You know, if you bought a higher quality guitar, like say a Martin, you wouldn't have these sorts of problems. (You think she'll buy it?)
I'm bringing her along slowly :)

Don't forget to go play a high end Taylor before you spend your money. It was a dead nuts toss up and only my love of all things Martin made me go with this one. They might not be as bassy as a Martin but the are very full.

My bro in laws Taylor 610 is a very nice fiddle! It plays a little better than the Martin but lacks that bottom end and ring the Martin owns. Neither one of them is a bad choice. That's for sure.

Yea, I had to walk off from that conversation too.....
If your nut is made of bone, the resonance is much better. True story. It also helps the strings glide thru the grooves a bit better as well.

New nuts or old, Julie's still gonna keep them in her purse until she decides you may need them. (That's probably why you're in such a bad mood all the time...)
